About Us
we are evangelical.
We would be considered “conservative” in theology, while being “progressive” in methodology.
we are a small-but growing church.
On average, we number between 130-175 people based on weekly worship gathering attendance.
we are a church developing small groups.
To make it easier for people to connect (and you’d be surprised how hard it is even with our current size), we have a growing menu of small groups (community groups) where we live life together with God. Please click on the “community groups’ tab for more information about how you can connect with others.
we are a church for the cities.
We are nearly right in between Pearland and Houston, and enjoy the fact that we are able to serve both communities. Furthermore, we are 10 minutes from Loop 610, and 10 minutes from Alvin. Currently, people from Pearland, Houston, Manvel and Alvin make up Southway. We are for the cities and love the cities.
we are a multi-generational church.
We enjoy that we have members whose age ranges from 18-91. We look at this diversity of age as a valued strength, not a weakness; as our older members can mentor our younger members, while our younger members’ passion is quite contagious for us older folks!
we are an multi-ethnic church.
On an average Sunday, we can have up to five different racial backgrounds (including Caucasian, African-American, Asian, Hispanic, and Indian) represented in our attendance! We are so grateful for being able to be an authentic expression of God’s heart and His kingdom, and are hoping we can increase in this area soon.
we are a community church.
Southway is glad to have a diverse representation of denominational heritage present during a typical Sunday gathering and smaller gatherings throughout the week. We have people from Methodist, Presbyterian, Baptist, Pentecostal, Lutheran and assorted non-denominational backgrounds. While we have varying views on non-essential items of belief, we all value the unity that is ours around the essential points of belief; all revolving around Jesus Christ and His glory. No matter your previous background (or lack thereof) you’re welcome here at Southway.
we desire to be a family-friendly church.
We have a large and growing number of families (married couples, with or without children, and single parents) who are beginning to call Southway home. As we seek to minister faithfully to the people God is sending to us, we will grow in our appreciation of and help for the family.
we are a mission-oriented church.
As you will read in ‘the southway story’ our history is rich with giving to and participating in global missions; all around the mission of God. We are gladly involved in a number of global and local ventures to advance the Gospel in our world. Currently, Southway is involved in a missions-funding program called “Faith Promise,” in which we help support nearly 20 different missions/missionaries around the world. If Faith Promise was rolled into our General Budget, we would be giving around 20% of our total budget to missions. Further, Southway is establishing a network of local partnerships to be on mission locally as well as globally.
Make no mistake though: We firmly believe that “missions” results from being obedient to “mission;” being the people of God, sharing the Gospel of God, to the world God has made.
