Sean Nelson

Who I am: My name is Sean Nelson. I am a student at the College of Biblical Studies in Houston and plan on attending seminary after I graduate. Southway is my home church. The former pastor, Kevin Paszalek moved in next door to my family when I was 8 years old and I have been attending ever since.

What I do here at Southway: I am the Pastoral Intern here at Southway. I am currently training under Jason and learning about the skills I will need and the challenges I will face as a minister of God’s word. As a part of my training you will occasionally see me preaching, I will meet with guests or members who have questions regarding the church and what we believe, and I am currently the Adult Sunday School Coordinator. (So if you have a passion for teaching, I’d love to talk with you about opportunities to serve here at Southway) I also teach in our Sunday School program, and you can usually find me in the Worship Center teaching through a book of the Bible.

My Favorites:
-Food: I am a huge fan of General Tso’s chicken and anything with the words “Sweet” and “Sour” in the name.
-Movie: Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. No question.
-Song: I tend to enjoy a lot of different types of music…I’m not sure that I have a “favorite song,” but I can tell you I’m not a very big fan of either country or rap music.

-Book: This is a hard one to answer because I am an avid reader. If we’re talking fiction, Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings still takes the cake. Non-fiction’s a bit more complicated, but currently the compilation of Greg Bahnsen’s writings titled “Presuppositional Apologetics” is giving me lots to think about.

What I see God up to at Southway: A while back I posted this on my Facebook page:

The reality of Christianity is that God has not called us to simply live out our own ambitions and desires. Rather, He calls us to live our lives for Himself and His glory. It doesn’t matter whether you are a preacher or a layman, “You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God.”

I believe that God is doing two things at Southway. He’s teaching us what it means to live for Him and not for ourselves, and through this He’s preparing us to teach others.
